Should we start by talking about us and give our credential to establish our credibility? Or start with convincing facts and figures? Or should we start with a giving approach?
In this thoughtful short video, Simon Sinek, a renowned TED Talk speaker, shares his best advice.
“The best way to do it is to start with some sort of story, metaphor or analogy that captures the idea that you’re going to be presenting about. […] A story that is emblematic of the end result.”
Here is the program for the St. Lawrence Toastmasters meeting of November 1st, 2016.
We would like to warmly welcome two individual members who have joined our club at the same time.
Club president Yanick Daoust welcomes Ghena and Olga to our club.
We always like to ask new members what inspired them to join Toastmasters. Here in their own words:
Olga:
I joined St. Lawrence Toastmasters to polish my ability to communicate with clarity, humour and have greater connection with the audience. I’ve always been passionate about performing and speaking in front of an audience, and now I want to take it to the next level. After my first visit I truly enjoyed the feeling of warmth, support and sense of community at the St. Lawrence club, I knew I had to become a member!
Ghena:
Public speaking was always a challenge for me, so when I heard about the Toastmasters club I decided to try it. At my first visit, I was fascinated by all the speakers. The level of public speaking skill at St. Lawrence club is very high and even intimidating at times. A year and a half after my first visit I finally decided to commit and become a member. I am really exited to embark on this journey and I look forward to learn a lot at Toastmasters St. Lawrence.
