We customarily like to ask our new members to share with us some of the reasons that motivated them to join Toastmasters…

From Keith:

The St Lawrence Toastmasters Club is a high achieving club, which is reflected in its member’s authenticity, diligence and openness to share their experience with others. I’m here to improve my public speaking skills for a podcast that I have begun. I wish to practice creating a connection with my audience by augmenting my vocal variety and clarity to better persuade them to catch my vision.

De Jean-Christophe :

J’ai rejoint Toasmasters International afin d’améliorer ma parole; selon l’axe théorique et pratique.
Pour la première dimension, ce que proposent les Toasmasters au travers de leur programme Pathway devrait me permettre de rédiger efficacement, selon mes objectifs, des discours persuasifs; avec différentes manières de le faire. De nombreux documents pratiques sont disponibles sur le site web qui me semble fournir une matière éducative riche et construite.
Et puis, bien entendu, surtout, l’aspect pratique avec mon choix pour le club St-Lawrence Toastmasters de Montréal. Le côté bilingue, les régulières mises à jour du site web m’ont orienté vers ce club que je découvre depuis quelques semaines. 
Mon choix? J’en suis ravi !

From Ndjacho:

One of my goals has always been to learn how to communicate effectively at all levels. Joining St-Lawrence Toastmasters Club is my way of fulfilling that goal.

From Kaya:

I’ve joined Toastmasters because I really value challenge and the opportunities it can present for growth. And to be able to communicate effectively, especially in large groups, can be quite challenging(!) I want to practice this skill with like-minded and supportive individuals who are open to sharing experiences and advice so we can all learn together.

Toastmasters International is proudly celebrating its 100th anniversary this October, marking a century of empowering individuals to become confident communicators and leaders.

To commemorate this historic milestone, the members of the Saint-Lawrence Toastmasters Club in Montreal enjoyed a delicious cake, reflecting on the rich legacy of Toastmasters since its first meeting on October 22, 1924. (Coincidentally, because our club meets every Tuesday evening, we therefore had the opportunity to celebrate on the exact 100th anniversary date of October 22, 2024!)

This celebration not only honored our past but also inspired us to continue fostering growth and connection within our community as we look forward to the next century of Toastmasters!

I’m excited to be here. Toastmasters is one piece of a theory that I am exploring, where I am looking to meet, and engage with like minded people in real life. In addition to refining my speaking skills, I enjoy chatting with a group of intelligent, driven, and well educated folks who I believe are on the cutting edge of their fields, and I look forward to seeing what everyone will continue to accomplish. Nous sommes curieux de connaître les motivations de nos membres quant à leur inscription à notre club. Voici le témoignage de Simon :

J’ai rejoint St-Lawrence Toastmasters car je cherchais un nouveau milieu où élargir mon champ d’intérêts. Je me suis fortement négligé au niveau du développement social depuis les années de covid, qui m’ont affecté de manière inattendue. J’ai également été blessé par mes premières expériences sur le marché du travail et j’ai ainsi beaucoup de difficultés à exprimer tout ce que je ressens. J’espère à Toastmasters parvenir à être une personne expressive et qui maîtrise plus de capacités non-verbales.

J’ai décidé de joindre Toastmasters afin d’améliorer mes habiletés d’écrire, de structurer et de présenter un discours dans le cadre de mon emploi. Après avoir assisté à quelques sessions, j’ai rapidement constaté que je pourrais tirer de nombreux apprentissages grace à la retroaction des autres membres et à la structure très professionnelle du club. 

From Taylor:

I joined Toastmasters to improve my public speaking and presentation skills. Each week at St Lawrence Toastmasters so far has been like a masterclass in communication from start to finish. The members are very compassionate and really care about helping others develop their public speaking skills in French and English.

“I joined Toastmasters because as a socially anxious person, I struggle to communicate verbally in an organized, concise, and clear way. I have avoided public speaking for many years, but now I would finally like to begin learning these skills so that I can confidently express myself both in the personal and professional realm. The St Lawrence Club seems like the perfect place to grow and practice public speaking, as a safe and welcoming environment, full of enthusiastic members.”

We are pleased to report that the Saint-Lawrence Toastmasters Club in downtown Montreal has been awarded the President’s Distinguished Club recognition again this year (2023-2024).

Earning the President’s Distinguished Club status indicates that our club is operating at an exceptional level, providing a high-quality experience for its members and effectively fulfilling the Toastmasters mission. It demonstrates our commitment to member development, strong leadership, and administrative excellence.

(The President’s Distinguished Club recognition is the highest level of achievement in the Toastmasters Distinguished Club Program. As Matt Kinsey, 2022-2023 Toastmasters International President, had put it in the March 2023 edition of Toastmasters Magazine, “The Distinguished Club Program is the best measure we have of how effective a club is at meeting its mission. It tells us that members are achieving goals. It tells us that new members are joining, bringing a greater diversity of feedback. It tells us that members are dedicated to improving themselves and that officers are committed to getting the training they need so the members of their club can get the most out of their Toastmasters experience”.)
