Nous avons l’habitude de demander à nos nouveaux membres de nous faire part des raisons pour lesquelles ils ont décidé de se joindre au club.

Voici ce que Joel nous écrit :

It was with great pleasure that I chose to join this club. I visited 2 or 3 other clubs in Montreal in the past, and wanted to join each one of them, but for various reasons and changes in my life, I did not end up doing so.
Now after finding the St-Lawrence Toastmasters Club, I am actually quite glad that I did not join the other clubs because I truly think this one is the best one of them all. The level of commitment to excellence, expansion and development in public speaking is unmatched. There is so much proven experience here as well. 
The location (Château St Ambroise) is great as the meeting room is annexed to a restaurant, allowing us to meet afterwards for a "post toast". This nurtures strong relationships with genuine care for each other and a life time of communication development. I could not ask for more.

Gaining confidence while presenting and speaking in public was in my skills to master bucket for a very long time. After hearing through friends and a few visits to St Lawrence’s club, it was imminent that I needed to take action. When visiting this club and seeing how organized and committed they are, I became more and more interested and soon became a member. There is such great energy in this club; a talented, diverse, collaborative and supportive group of people whose ultimate goal is improving while sharing their thoughts, ideas and stories!

We like to ask new members to share some of the reasons why they decided to join our club. Here is what they have to say.

From Sebastian:

"Although I had to give countless presentations during my school days, I never really felt comfortable giving speeches in front of large crowds. Therefore, I tried to avoid such situations during my university studies. While in Canada, however, I was again confronted with this shortcoming, this time even in a language other than my mother tongue. Under these circumstances I decided to join a Toastmasters club and I am very happy to have found the St. Lawrence Club."

From Adam:

Learning is a matter of getting in the reps. Taking in the feedback to be at your best. After attending a few meetings at St Lawrence Toastmasters, I knew this was the team to get me there.

Welcoming? Check ??

Track record of excellence? Check ??

Well-organized. Check ??

A fun, friendly, supportive atmosphere? Check, check check.

Not to mention the ability to practice my speaking in English & French.

Le club St-Lawrence à Montréal est fier de féliciter ses membres Joëlle, Caroline, Yanick et Italo, qui ont tous gagné la première place lors des concours de secteur qui ont eu lieu le 25 janvier 2023.

Notre club fait partie du secteur 62, qui regroupe plusieurs clubs. Chaque année des concours amicaux sont organisés entre les clubs du même secteur. Les concours qui ont eu lieu récemment étaient des concours d’évaluation (un en anglais, et un en français), ainsi que des concours de discours (un en anglais, et un en français).

Nous sommes fiers d’accueillir Bin comme nouveau membre du club St. Lawrence Toastmasters à Montréal.

Nous avons l’habitude de demander aux nouveaux membres de nous communiquer les motivations qui les ont poussés à joindre notre club. Voici ce que Bin mentionne :

“J’ai décidé de rejoindre St-Lawrence Toastmasters afin d’améliorer mes capacités de communication et de leadership. Je n’ai pas l’habitude de parler devant un public et c’était un frein important à mes perspectives personnelles et professionnelles. J’ai beaucoup appris depuis que je suis devenu membre et il me reste encore beaucoup à apprendre. 

Je suis vraiment ravi de faire partie d’un groupe chaleureux et j’espère pouvoir continuer à m’améliorer à chaque semaine.”

"I am thrilled to have found St Lawrence Toastmasters! Since attending my first meeting as a guest I have learned so much week after week. I am very grateful to all the club members who have been so supportive and welcoming. What a joy to join this group who share an interest in personal development and striving for excellence! Can’t wait to see where this journey leads".

Francisco actually joined our club in 2017, then took a break for a few years. He then came back recently to join again as a member. Just like going to the gym, sometimes it takes a little break to recenter and reestablish priorities like investing in yourself. Welcome back Francisco!

The Saint-Lawrence Toastmasters Montreal club would like to warmly welcome Bertrand as a new member. After visiting us on a few occasions, he is jumping into the adventure and is joining our club.

We like to ask our new members to share with us some of the reasons why they decided to join Toastmasters. Here is what Bertrand has to share:

Growing up I have always been a timid person, be it to express my desires or to start a conversation with a stranger. When I was driving for Uber, this became very much evident; in most of my rides, after our initial greetings there was nothing more to talk about until the final farewell greetings once we reached the destination.

One day, I came across this rider with whom I conversed throughout the entire trip. I became curious to ask him if he knew where I could learn how to build my interpersonal and public speaking skills.

He asked if I had heard about Toastmasters, which I had not. But when I retired I quickly did a Google search and sent a couple of queries to various clubs. St. Lawrence Toastmasters was the first to respond, and the rest is history!
