Our current club president Mathieu Savage recently read an article from the famous Harvard Business Review about oral and written communication.  He highly recommends as it offers some useful advice and explains different styles and approaches to communicating (public speaking, one-on-one, email and written documents).

From Mathieu:

I also want to point out that the book they recommend, I Can See You Naked, has already been highly suggested in the club by Italo Magni, one of our most experienced speakers. It is written in a series of one-page cues on how to improve your public speaking skills. It is easy to read and one can make it a good habit to go through a few pages as review before a presentation.

Marie-Paule Gagnon

Here is a note from Pietro di Benedetto, one of our members who recently competed in the Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking .

Last Thursday Sept 23rd and Friday the 24th , I was in Toronto.  When I’m in Toronto my routine is very simple: See as many clients and prospects during the day. Then I have dinner by myself and stay in my hotel room, watch TV and eat Doritos all night.

I decided to keep away from the TV and Doritos and break away from tradition. I decided to attend a Toastmasters meeting in T.O.  After all my research  in District 60, I finally found an advanced TM Club which met on a Thursday night.  They were called the ”Top of Toronto Select Speakers” Toastmasters Club .

They were so accommodating and had me as a guest speaker.  I recited my District winning speech and in I must say in all humility, they were impressed, and very happy I attended.

Most importantly, they were true Toastmasters: Welcoming, Warm, Friendly and made me feel as though I’ve known them for years.

I think it’s a good idea to write about this in our Website and Thank the “Top of Toronto Select Speakers ” for their hospitality and to tell them (as I did) they are always welcome to visit St. Lawrence Toastmasters club in Montreal whenever any one of them is in La Belle Province.

Are you graduating from high school this year and are you looking for a Speaking and Leadership Program in the West Island?

You’ll find exactly that at the Pointe-Claire Library this fall.

What, when, where, how? Read on for more!…
